Electricity prices by continent and country groups
Among high-income and developed economies, G10, G7, OECD, and Eurozone countries exhibit the highest electricity prices, with residential rates ranging from $0.23 to $0.30 per kWh. For instance, the Eurozone averages $0.27 residential and $0.21 business, while G10 countries top the list at $0.30 and $0.24, respectively.
In contrast, lower-income and emerging market regions report much lower electricity prices. The MENA region shows the lowest residential rate at $0.05 and business rate at $0.08. Similarly, SAARC countries (South Asia) and OPEC members also report very low electricity prices, likely due to subsidies or domestic energy production.
Asian, ASEAN, and Sub-Saharan African groups generally fall in the middle range, with rates between $0.08–$0.13. Interestingly, Oceania shows high business rates ($0.25), higher than the average for most developed regions.
Income-based groupings (per World Bank classification) show a clear pattern: higher income groups pay more, with high-income countries at $0.22 residential, while low-income countries average only $0.13 or less.
Overall, the data highlights the strong correlation between economic development, energy policy, and electricity pricing, with business rates often slightly lower than residential in most regions.
