About the data
The data set covers 140 countries for the period from 2019 to present. The series are quarterly and include all components of the final retail electricity price: the cost of transmission and distribution, the cost of power, and all applicable taxes and fees. The prices are reported in local currency per kWh. Included are several data points for both residential and business electricity rates to capture the price distribution related to electricity consumption. Also included are the matching USD and Euro exchange rates to convert the prices into a common currency for comparison. The data are collected by our team of economists from original sources. Those include the regulatory agencies in each country and the main power providers. The values are weighted by the market share of the providers and by regional population.
