About the data

We report electricity prices in local currency per kWh which includes the cost of distribution, energy, and all taxes and fees. The data for each country have seven data points for different levels of electricity consumption. That is necessary as electricity prices vary with consumption.

We calculate the cost per kWh at the average annual household electricity consumption for each country using consumption data from the World Energy Council. We also calculate and report the cost per kWh at the following levels of consumption: 25%, 50%, 75%, 150%, 200% and 300% of the annual household electricity consumption.

For example, the average annual household electricity consumption in The Netherlands is 3500 kWh per year. Therefore, we calculate the cost of electricity at the following consumption levels: 875, 1750, 2625, 3500, 5250, 7000, and 10,500 kWh per year.
