About the data
We use at least three independent sources for each country including the Ministries of Energy, Transport, or Commerce; fuel price transparency mechanisms; local automobile associations; consumer advocacy groups; international fuel companies; local petroleum monopolies; multilateral organizations; and the local media. Currency: Local currency. You can also download the USD and Euro exchange rates to convert the prices to a common currency.
Frequency: Weekly for the raw data. You can, however, select monthly, quarterly, and annual averages based on the weekly series.
Fuel types: Gasoline octane number 95 (equivalent to mid-grade unleaded in the U.S.), regular non-premium diesel, LPG, kerosene, heating oil, ethanol, and methane.
Measure: Price per liter of fuel.
Level: Retail (pump) prices after all taxes and fees.
National, regional, local: The data are national averages. We also have regional data for Australia, Brazil, Canada, Russia, and the U.S. where the regional variation is substantial and we track over 250 cities globally. Contact us for these data.
Collection method: Each data point has been collected by a member of our team from the original source and has been checked by other members of the team. There is no automation in the process.
World fuel price averages
Weighted average of gasoline and diesel prices in over 100 countries that consume over 90 percent of the world oil products. The weights are the countries' share of the global petroleum products consumption.
Exchange rates
These are USD and Euro exchange rates at the time of collection of the fuel price data. They can be used to convert the fuel prices, which are in local currency, into a common currency.
Brent, WTI and OPEC basket prices
These are the benchmark prices at the time of fuel price collection. They are useful to track how fuel prices change with the changes in crude oil prices.
Cost
The cost is 0.35, 1.25, 2.50, and 7.50 USD per data point for weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual averages, respectively. We offer discounts for large data sets and for academic purposes. Please contact us if you have any questions or want to subscribe to data updates by e-mail.
